UPDATE: The earlier version of the G5120 seems to be sold out, however, the newly updated version is now available for just $595.
I was just cruising some of the guitar retailers when I noticed that Music123.com has dropped their price on the lovely Gretsch G5120 Electromatic Hollowbody–they’re new price (as of this writing) is just $560. So if you’re a fan of that fat and warm Gretsch tone, well, you might want to take a better look.
I’ve never personally played this exact model – the G5120 – but my experience with other Gretsch guitars has been nothing but positive, and the beautiful Gretsch Duo Jet is still one of my most sought after guitars.
The G5120 Electromatic is apparently now slouch in the features department, though with this price drop, and the fact that it’s not listed at Gretsch’s web site, I’m guessing the G5120 may have been moved out of production to make way for newer models.
The Gretsch G5120 Electromatic Features–
- Laminated Maple Top, Back & Sides
- Maple Neck
- Rosewood Fretboard With 22 Frets
- Dual Gretsch Humbuckers
- Two Volume Controls
- Master Volume & Tone Controls
- 3-Way Pickup Switching
- Authentic Bigsby B700 Vibrato
- Chrome Tuning Machines
At this price I’m tempted to pick one up myself, though I think my wife would probably kill me for adding yet another guitar to my collection ;)

I woke up this morning, and told my girlfriend I wanted a new guitar. I have Fenders and Gibsons, but I have never owned a Gretsch Electromatic. I quickly changed all that. I honestly believe, it is the best guitar I have ever owned. With the really cool Elvis strap, this beauty just “Screams” Rockabilly. It is so smooth, it practically plays itself. What a great tone? WOW! My palms sweat, when I think of plugging it into my grt-8 processor. Buy this axe dude. You wont reget it. Be Duane Eddy today! Lance

Absolutely GORGEOUS guitar. Worth every penny. My only complaint — the pickups are weak. They SOUND GOOD, just have a low output. I don’t know too much about Gretsch, - I’m a Gibson man. But I’m thinkin about puttin a ‘57 Classic plus @ the bridge of this thing. Did I mention how GORGEOUS this guitar is ??
