If you’re lookin’ for something a bit more exotic than your typical ash or alder Tele, you might want to check out Fender’s new Special Edition Koa Telecaster — it’s Fender’s first offering to make use of tropical koa wood outside of their gorgeous, but rather expensive Custom Shop models.
It looks like Fender’s managed to keep the cost down on this beauty by building the Koa Tele with a body made of basswood, and sporting an elegant koa veneer on top. Other than the exotic koa wood, though, this baby’s all high-class Tele.
Among other things, it’s got a mother-of-pearl pickguard & inlays, Seymour Duncan pickups, and of course that highly-playable C-shaped birds-eye maple neck.
The Special Edition Koa Telecaster Features–
- Basswood Body/Koa Top
- Birdseye Maple Neck
- Rosewood Fretboard With 22 Frets
- Seymour Duncan® APTR-1 & APTL-1 Pickups
- Master Volume & Tone Controls
- 3-Way Pickup Switching
- Vintage Style Bridge With Brass Saddles
- White Pearloid Pickguard
- Mother-Of-Pearl Dot Inlays
IMHO, a gorgeous guitar for this price range, and fairly well-spec’d out right from the factory.
