New From Fender For 2006
ALL-TUBE PERFECTION?
OK, first off I think Fender has been reading my mind… seriously, according to their website Fender’s new Super-Sonic 112 Combo may be the all-in-one guitar amplifier I’ve been dreaming of for, I don’t know, the last 20 years!
Anyone who follows this blog knows that after years of loading equipment on and off of small stages, not to mention in and out of the back trunk of a multitude of cruddy cars, I’m a big fan of truly portable amplifiers. And the dream amp I’ve always been looking for has been hard to come by: small, loud, all-tube, sparkling clean tones, creamy overdrive/sustain, old-school spring reverb… the list goes on and on.
Anyways, by all appearances it looks like the Super-Sonic 112 Combo, which was just introduced for 2006, may actually satisfy my thirst for dreamy, portable, tube-amp perfection: it’s apparently designed to capture those shimmering ’65 Vibrolux clean tones, while also being capable of producing the warmth and “fatness” of the infamous Fender Bassman, and both of these voicings are available via foot-switch.
On top of that, the Super-Sonic was built to provide a variety of overdrive characteristics: from crunchy, clipped blues to the high-gain/sustain that’s popular with many guitarists today. Amazingly, Fender packs the whole thing into a cool vintage-styled Blonde & Oxblood enclosure just 17.3“ x 25.3” x 10.2“, and an easy-on-the-back 54 lbs.
Other Features Include: 60 Watts of power into 8 Ohms, a single 12” Celestion® Vintage 30 speaker, dual channels: (Vintage & Burn) with foot-switchable Vibrolux® & Bassman “voices” in the Vintage channel, true Fender spring reverb, tilting legs, dual cascading-gain preamp overdrive and a whole lot more…
Stay tuned: I’ll do a full review of these beauties just as soon as I can get my greedy little hands on one!
