I recently spent some down-time on the Big Island of Hawaii and discovered that just about everywhere you go you overhear snippets of the talented Jake Shimabukuro playing his incredibly guitar-like ukulele.
His work is technically absolutely stunning, if a tad bit cheesy (in my book) – overdriven ukulele leads with hammer-ons, the whole bit. A little too much schtick for my taste.
But that said, this guy is a true ukulele virtuoso to be sure, and my friends over at CybersMusic have unearthed a clip of Mr. Shimabukuro playing George Harrison’s “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” that is freakin’ brilliant.
If God played the ukulele it would sound something like this…
