According to Twangville, one of my all-time favorite twang masters – the incomparable Dave Alvin – has released a new album entitled “West of the West.”
Alvin first caught my attention for his virtuoso guitar work & sublimely blue-collar vocal style with The Blasters (which he started with brother Phil,) but he went on to play short stints with two of my favorite bands to come out of the Los Angeles music scene circa the 1980s – groundbreaking punk rock band “X” and the trend-setting alt-folk-country band The Knitters.
He has also had a long, and storied solo career… I mean, the man is an American Music powerhouse.
So what’s “West of the West” all about? Well, we’ll just let the man speak for himself (from davealvin.com)–
“I’ve been in the studio for 2 weeks and everything is coming along just great except that I’m exhausted and a bit slap-happy. It’ll be called WEST OF THE WEST and it’s turning out to be a pretty cool cd, a sort of blues/folk/doowop/ country/psychedelic/norteno/surf record…”
I don’t know about you, but that’s all I needed to hear… Twangville has more info.
