OK, I’ll admit that the metal-flaked finish on G&L’s Will Ray Signature model may not be everybody’s cup of tea, but hey – guitar playing is all about having fun, right? Luckily, it also comes in a clear orange finish, so if you’re otherwise enamored by all the bells & whistles on this guitar you do have options.
Will Ray may best known for his work with the semi-legendary instrumental guitar band, the Hellecasters, but he’s also made his mark producing country and blues artists, and is the creator of the Hipshot Will Ray B-Bender – a device which emulates the sound of a pedal steel, and is featured prominently on his Signature guitar.
The Will Ray Signature model is pretty much loaded with extras, including a trio of G&L Magnetic Field Design Z-coil pickups that have been fully customized to Ray’s specifications (over-wound, and with extended pole pieces for the bridge and middle position pickups,) Will Ray-designed “skull” inlays, locking tuning machines, and more.
To top it off, the instrument comes with two of Will Ray’s “slide rings” and two instructional videos by Ray himself (“B-Bender Mania and ”Stealth Slide“,) so you can fully master that B-Bender.
