Price Drop! Epiphone Les Paul Jr. Just $99

Thu, Dec 7, 2006

Epiphone Les Paul JrWell, Christmas is coming up fast, and I know a number of my readers have budding guitar players in the family, so I thought I’d point out that Musician’s Friend is selling a limited number of Epiphone Les Paul Jr ‘s for just $99.

Now don’t get me wrong, this is obviously not a pro level guitar (or even intermediate for that matter,) but if you’re in the market to buy an instrument for someone who’s just starting out I’m pretty sure you won’t find a better deal in the sub $100 price range.

User reviews seems to be coming in pretty good for the Epi Les Paul Jr, with the only real complaint being cheap tuners––a problem that’s easily fixed with a minor upgrade––and what sounds like a rather hasty factory set-up (a little adjustment to the bridge ought to bring that action down no problem.)

On the upside, the Les Paul Jr sells for just $99, and features a single-cutaway body, rosewood fingerboard with 22 frets (24-3/4“ scale length,) bolt-on neck, chrome hardware, a ”dog ear“ style P90 single-coil bridge pickup, and single volume & tone knobs.

This one’s available from Musician’s Friend.

They’re “SLASH”ing prices to compete with… well, you know.

Hehe… good point, JP. I’ve noticed Gibson making a much larger push in the “beginner guitars” market this Christmas, and that whole First Act/VW monstrosity may well be the reason why.

    I’d recommend a consumer-level Epiphone over a WalMart-level First Act any day of the week ; )

Me too! I was gonna say that, but when I get on a Worst Act rant, I can’t stop.

We have an Epi LP Special II and it smokes! It has that 50’s carve on the neck which feels so good after I’ve been playing my Wide/Thin PRS too long. Our little black guitar has written over 30 songs, been in many alt tunings, has good tuners. And it just sounds ferocious—roar and sustain. I think I’ll get this for Sarah so she can find her inner-Billie Joe. dna
