Jon, that's great to hear. I'd still love to get my hands on one of these. Where did you find yours, if you don't mind me asking?

I've got Guitar of the Week #37, and I love it. Great build. Premium instrument, though I did switch out the P-90s for Fralin noiseless.

the hum and buzzing are ridiculous for a 3-year od guitar. I just played one, put it down quickly. Say bye-bye. No wonder they only made 400. It's the equivalent of a General Motors car, full of problems right from the assembly plant, they can't pass their own "quality control". Frankly my dear, not worth $500.00.

Bought new off of ebay. Combines my favorite 2 guitars, S-trat-G.... (hey, I am copywriting that!) Couple of minuses up front... HATE the satin finish- so much so that I may get it sprayed. Really bad ground buzz from the jack, and will have to replace. Lastly, the acoustic tone is terrible... compared to my Orville By Gibson '61 RI which sings unplugged. But plugged in (when the jack cooperates) I get over those issues quickly. Cops the strat #2 and #4 nicely, and to my ears is very tele-ish on the bridge pup. Once I work out the bugs, I think this will be the perfect gig setup for me. Pups do seem hot overall as others have said. If I had the spare change, I would have gone for the cherry 3-h/b model and swap them for h/b sized P-90's but I could not justify the $1400.00. I think I will end up really liking this one tho'.

I love my new SG-3 (GOTW #10). The blade pickups are hot for single coils and put out a great crisp clean tone. The 6 position chicken head gives you all of the settings of a strat 5 way plus the two outside pickups. The lead and middle pickups together sound a lot like that in between strat sound that Clapton uses so much. Light weight and comfortable, it plays like a Gibson (and stays in tune) but sounds like a hardtail strat. This is not Gibson's first attempt at copping the strat tone - I have a '65 Non-reverse Firebird III with 3 P-90's, an S-1 and a Corvus III that are prior attempts as well. While this is no vintage Firebird, it is a very respectable instrument and is extremely practical on stage as a complement to your typical humbucker loaded Les Paul, SG or other Gibson.

Dean - can you give more details on the sound and handling? This sounds like an interesting hybrid. Do you have any issues with hum?

I bought one today. The single coils sound fantastic through my Mesa Lonestar. This SG is a Tele Killer. One piece body and it's a lite 5 pounds 3 ounces.
