Gibson Announces Guitar Of The Week #14 :: Les Paul Classic Antique

Tue, Apr 24, 2007

Gibson Les Paul Classic AntiqueNow that’s a gorgeous guitar… Gibson this morning unveiled another edition to its already illustrious Guitar Of The Week family of Limited Release instruments––the updated Les Paul Classic Antique in stunning Iced Tea Burst finish.

As an LP Classic Antique, the guitar is decked out for a true vintage vibe and feel, but what sets it apart from earlier incarnations of this model is the addition of a pair of stacked double-coil H-90 pickups (instead of the traditional ’57 Classic PAF humbuckers,) which according to Gibson are capable of pumping out “solid rock edge, crisp country licks, and warm jazz tone.”

Of course, the guitar also sports all the usual Les Paul Classic Antique accoutrements, including a top of highly-figured AA maple, mahogany back, single-piece mahogany neck with ’60s slim taper profile (24 3/4” scale length,) rosewood fretboard with 22 frets & pearloid trapezoid inlays, and antique binding across the board.

Hardware comes in gold plating, and will include a tune-o-matic bridge, stopbar tailpiece, amber “top hat” knobs, and green key tuning machines. Electronics include dual volume controls, dual tone controls, and 3-way pickup switching.

As with the other instruments in this series, the Les Paul Classic Antique in Iced Tea Burst will be available in a run of just 400 instruments. Get ‘em while they’re hot!

I feel the same way… this one and the SG w/singlecoils are the first two to really grab me.

Just ordered my GOW #14 LP from Sweetwater. They had 4 to choose from in their gallery. I am primarilly a Strat player.. recently purchased a R4 Cloud Nine Les Paul and have been enjoying it. Thought I’d add another to the stable so the R4 wouldn’t feel ganged up on by all of those Fenders!
