Well, this week marks the grand release of the 25th Anniversary Edition of George Thorogood and the Destroyers’ seminal album Bad to the Bone––now digitally remastered from the original master tapes, and including a bunch of great extras, like six new recordings and a rare B-side.
To help celebrate the re-birth of Bad to the Bone, EGR is very proud to have teamed up with the finger-pickin’ madman himself to give you a chance to win a custom guitar slide actually hand-made and signed by George Thorogood––one of the very same slides he uses on stage.
Heck, we’ll even throw in a copy of the album, to boot!
And while we may have just a single custom slide to give away, two runners up will also receive their own copies of the 25th Anniversary Edition of George Thorogood and the Destroyers’ Bad to the Bone––a truly classic guitar album of the ’80s.
Contest Rules Rules? There ain’t no stinkin’ rules––just leave a few words in the comment section below before midnight next Thursday––and don’t forget to use a valid e-mail address––and you’ll be automatically entered for a chance to win.
Contest winners will be picked randomly, and I’ll be notifying the lucky winners via e-mail come Friday the 24th of August.
Unfortunately, this contest is only open to residents living in the US or Canada.

Sweet. My slide was stepped on and crunched while moving. Perfect timing. :-)
August 17th, 2007 at 2:30 pm
Hehe… these bad boys look pretty much uncrunchable ;)

I suppose that it is illegal for someone related to you to win. I just read Carl Hiassen’s Skinny Dip, a comedy, in which the villain prepares for various kinds of intense action by playing Bad to the Bone at full volume. I quote Even digitally remastered, Bad to the Bone could not rally Chaz’s bone to its usual badness.

will this slide teach me to play guitar?
August 17th, 2007 at 4:11 pm
It might just.
I have it on authority that the slide has been imbued with magical properties…
August 17th, 2007 at 4:31 pm
I’ve always wanted a George Thorogood slide…
August 17th, 2007 at 5:03 pm
I bet George’s slide would sound good on my new Zemaitis. I make no bones about it!
August 17th, 2007 at 5:08 pm
Ooooh, a Zemaitis? Which kind did you pick up? I love those engraved metal-tops.

Someone stole my brass slide. I’ve been lookin all over to find a new one, but it’s just not the same. Maybe one with some injected mojo would cure a broken heart.

A Thoroughlygood idea to go with my cobra snake necktie and my barbed wire guitar strings. Who do you love?
August 18th, 2007 at 8:43 am
I play slide using a custom brass slide made for me a long time ago by a friend who is now dead. I love the slide but am terrified of losing it or leaving it at a gig. Winning this competition woud be great, By George! (I’m allowed to say that, I’m English!)

George needs to stick with softball, his new releases all sound the same..way to much slide and no freshness…..still waiting for the contest that gives away Johnny Winters medicine cabinet or something like Keith’s dads ashes

ooooooo, slide, george…
August 18th, 2007 at 11:09 am
Cool looking slide. I love to have one.
August 18th, 2007 at 11:57 am
George Thorogood has the most soul of any Caucasian in history…AND he makes a great slide, too!
August 18th, 2007 at 1:32 pm
Being non-resident of the U.S./Canada, I cannot win. Boo!
BTW, my slide is a motorcycle part I nicked from my brother-in-law about 18 years ago. God only knows what it was supposed to do, though.
August 18th, 2007 at 4:29 pm
George Thorogood’s awesome! Saw him and the Destroyers… last year I think. Twas great.
August 19th, 2007 at 6:36 am
Nice to see someone as old as me still rockin!
August 19th, 2007 at 7:55 am
Just thought I’d slide on over here and enter the contest.
August 19th, 2007 at 9:00 pm
I’m not sure that I’d say he has the most soul - I’m a big fan of Peter Green - but he’s definitely one of the greats. Might have to pick up this remastering.
August 20th, 2007 at 5:51 am
bbbbb-best
August 20th, 2007 at 9:57 am
Cool contest. I would love to win the slide.
August 20th, 2007 at 8:21 pm
Now this is a sweet giveaway. Thorogood rocks!
August 20th, 2007 at 8:55 pm
Oh, man! I don’t play guitar AND I’m related to Cary so I’m not entering the contest but I do wanna give George some props as listening to this album inspired me to learn more about many of the original artists. He was an early inspiration to be a rockin’ rhythm and blues performer. Thanks G!
August 23rd, 2007 at 11:05 am
…i’ve been hankering for a new slide
August 23rd, 2007 at 11:32 am
Cary, thanks for the nice comment on my guitar over in the forum. I’ll join the fun and enter this contest! Thanks for including U.S. AND CANADA (yeah!). Chris

It was pure joy to hear Thorogood playing in early 80´s Finland (and learn some…) when we had Soviet Union as a neighbour and abba was in.
August 23rd, 2007 at 12:59 pm
That slide would really make my Tele sing.
August 23rd, 2007 at 3:51 pm
Those slides look cool. I wouldn’t mind having a go at them :)
August 23rd, 2007 at 7:22 pm
have seen george over 35 times, have a tattoo of him on my leg, would be an honor to win this slide!!! AND AWAY WE GO!!!
August 23rd, 2007 at 10:47 pm
So I’m listening to my MP3 and listening to “Baddest of George…” CD. “Bad to the Bone” kicks on. I decided to go through my bookmarks and select this site (haven’t been here in 3 weeks or more) and boom! Right there on top in the front page is this contest! Awesome enough reason for me submit an “entry.” True story and not kissing ass cause I know the winner is picked randomly. It was a sign from The Destroyers!!
September 14th, 2007 at 2:00 pm
Oh man! I want this thing sooo badly! I could REALLY put it to some good use, my band’s my only source of money and this thing looks like it would play beautifully! Especially because I’ve been using an old plastic folder for the past week, as my slide was broken by a friend… MAJOR bonus points for the signature. I have to give this man props, he really earned a place as one of the best musicians, This slide would be so awesomely wonderful to own, I’d make sure it stayed in nice shape (AKA out of the reach of said friend.) cause it’s just too cool!

George is one of the best blues, living legend rockers around. I have seen many a great show and always left very satisfied. Who doesn’t dig One Scotch, One Bourbon, One Beer? By all means, slide me down one of those George endorsed, electric finger tube manipulators ! Time to riff out on some destroyer gold ! O’ Momma !!!
May 22nd, 2008 at 10:55 am
Daddio will love mommio for winning this for him.
October 14th, 2008 at 4:29 pm
I love the guy would not have started playing slide without him!
