Well, this week marked the “official” release of the PowerTune Les Paul (yep, Gibson acquired exclusive rights to Tronical’s automated guitar tuning system back in January,) and to get the great big promotional ball rolling the company will apparently be giving away one of these latest LP Studios to some lucky winner.
After a bit of digging around I believe the first batch of PowerTune Les Pauls to actually hit stores will more than likely be in the form of LP Standards & Studios, and I certainly don’t expect them to be cheap… at least a few online retailers have the PowerTune System itself on pre-order for a formidable $899.
The PowerTune System can handle a number of popular tunings, and if we’re to believe Gibson the system is totally unobtrusive, highly accurate, and insanely fast––I guess we’ll get a better idea how much of that is hyperbole when these things really start hitting the shelves.
The system runs on 2 rechargeable batteries that are actually charged right through the guitar jack, and according to Gibson they get about 300 automagical tunings per charge.
