Are you serious? 17G for a guitar that looks like a beat up piece of s*#t? For about 1/10 of that you can get a shiny new American built SRV model from the Fender Custom Shop. And if you treat your ax like I treat mine, it will stay that way for a long time. Personally, I can't see any reason to pay extra for any guitar that has purposely been made to look old, worn, or beat up. Oh well, it's your hard earneed money. I prefer to spend mine on custom accessories like gold hardware, and better tuners and pickups...

Last week I visited the Vintage Room at the Hollywood Guitar Center, and I felt the same way about the originals. While it was awesome to be in the room with all of those beautiful old guitars, I realized that for 95% of the guitar-playing population, paying $30 grand for an old, beat up Strat is...probably insane! And definitely out of reach.

Its a strat............$17,000? Most everyone here owns one or has owned one. I agree that a vintage instrument is very cool to play, the vibe, the tone, but a reproduction? I love my strat but $17,000, are these people taking crazy pills?

My brother-in-law has a "connection" at the Guitar Center in Phoenix that allowed him to play their Lenny last Monday when the shop was quiet. He said it was awesome to behold, suprisingly light (felt like the neck was the same weight as the body), and the pickups sounded excellent. He also said he was nervous to play it and afraid he might drop it!

So get this, each Guitar Center will be accepting phone orders as well.
This takes all the excitement out of the live sales floor scuffle spectacle.

I was actually gonna go and watch, but now that any fat cat can just call it in from his boat, it ain't gonna be any fun.

I just can't get excited about any Stratocaster...I guess it's cause none of my 'heroes' played one.
Now Jazzmasters, that's a whole other story...can't wait to see how much they charge for the Elvis Costello model

I had a chance yesterday to see one in a glass case at Guitar Center in Orange County CA- just beautiful - right down to the cracked and raised pick guard. Large sign above it read $17,000!

It's hard to get excited about such an expensive limited edition guitar. I guess it helps market regular everyday Fender Stratocasters (any press is good press!), not that Fender needs help in that regard anyway. Sad that normal Mom and Pop shops that we all *should* be frequenting are left out of many of these "press events".

Some select Guitar Centers already have them on display. The local GC here in Nashville has one sitting beside the replica of Number One (which is going for $40,000). Oh, how I wish I could get both of them.
