Just wanted to let you know that your latest article has given me the confidence (and ideas) to paint my strat the color I really want it to be – ocean turquoise (’65 Mercury #5)! Who isn’t tired of Fender’s standard limited offerings of black, white and tobacco-burst! Thanks!

PS: It’s not nitro, but you can get about any Fender color or other retro color in spray-cans here: (they’re all car colors)

Cary, I really like version two. Green guard, aged hardware, finish looks aged but not beat up…that level of “relicing” would be my first choice. Nice work!

Have you tried sanding, not with sand paper. Maybe using actual sand or gravel, or belt buckles to age it?

Hell yes, I haven’t even touched the neck yet. To be honest, it’s a delicate process and I kind of wanted to practice my sanding chops on the more forgiving body before trying my hand at the neck.

Got a nice can of Amber Nitro just waiting to be sprayed…

i think playing around with some very light applications of amber/yellow nitro spray would help ‘dull’ the white down – leaving the edges and areas of wear being a little more white due to the “years of rubbing” and such….

just a thought.

love watching your process. it’s looking good. i may have to give this a go soon myself with a Fender Mustang.
