Just when I thought it was safe to pull out my pocketbook again, Gibson announces a full range of new “Robot Guitars,” including both a Les Paul and an SG in what may be the single most popular finish produced in recent years (if searches on this site are any indication,)… Silverburst.
Self-tuning robotics aside, guitar freaks have been jonesing for some new Silverburst options for quite some time, and I have no doubt these things will fly off the shelves––even with an MSRP well into the mid $3000s.
Gotta’ admit, that Naturalburst SG has caught my eye, too…. damn you Gibson! ;)

I must be the only person in the world who likes purple finishes, and a lot of these colors look great! I just wish they were featured on regular Gibson guitars and not Robots. No need for me to pony up at least another grand for a feature I don’t really need.

Gibson oughta do a limited edition run of 25.5″ scale LP’s. People might like ‘em… better. ;)))

not remotely interested in a robot guitar, its a fad. but at least they are offering more colours now. that original blue was rancid!

I’m a big fan of purple too (actually I own a Musicman Silhouette of this color), and the green is nice too.
I’m not a big fan of the silberburst though, I think it’s a sad color on a guitar (I don’t know if this means something in english …).
Keep up the good work Cary.
I love this blog and miss your posts.
By the way I see that we can’t follow the comments by email. Could you do something for that ? There is a nice plugin (subscribe to comments) that does the trick very effectively.
Bye

I love the original Silverburst LP Customers from the late 80s. That color looks great when it ages.

I did a feature on these too. Personally, I thought the self tuners were a good idea.
Fad maybe, but no more of a fad than our lead player’s Fender Strat with the Roland modelling system.
Anyway, I liked the idea of the system as a whole, not just the new tuners but the nice pickups, and the high end Neutrik jack. And then there was the chambering redesign….
A good pick for an up and coming guitar, with or with out the “fad” tuners.
Thanks for a great blog!
