Well, we knew it was only a matter of time, but now it’s official––it looks like Gibson’s self-tuning “Robot” technology is finally trickling down into the rest of their model line, with the introduction of both a Robot Flying V, and a Robot X-Plorer.
According to Gibson, both guitars will feature one-piece mahogany necks, ebony fretboards with 22 frets, a hybrid ’50s rounded contour/’60s slim-taper neck profile, topless 500T/496R humbuckers, and of course the Robot Tuning System.
The guitars will be available in a single Red Metallic finish for the time being, but provided they sell I think it’s a fair bet that more colors will be available in the future. They ship with a charger, power plug, battery pack and a hardshell case. MSRP is set at $2599.

Where are they going to stop with these robot guitars? Don’t people want to learn how to tune a guitar or buy an electronic tuner? Maybe they can make a guitar that functions like a player piano?

Sent back the first one turners snapped the low e string And high e string tuner did not move at all. Got my second one and low e tuner doesn’t work. On the good side this guitar plays beautifully, action is great, and great sound.LOOKS AWSOME. I know Gibson stands by their products and will make good on getting me one that works. I love the whole idea of this robot self-tuning thing and there will always be some kinks to work out. Keep up the innovations. GO GIBSON
