Okay all you hair-metal-heads (are there any of those left? Quick, show of hands!) here’s your chance to win a frighteningly scalloped Yngwie Malmsteen Signature Strat––signed by the madman himself.
This is apparently a PR move to bring some awareness to the upcoming release (November 28th, 2008) of the new Fender Custom Shop limited edition Yngwie Malmsteen Tribute Series “Play Loud” Replica.
However, make no mistake; Fender isn’t giving away the new replica… it’s the older Signature Series Strat that is up for the offering. Still––a free guitar is a free guitar, right? Also, it’s no longer a matter of just giving Fener your e-mail and mailing address: now you have to create a Fender Profile.
Check it out at Fender’s Official Yngwie Malmsteen Signature Stratocaster Giveaway page.

I’m metal. Well, I used to be metal. 20 years ago.

Though I haven’t played a scalloped neck, I think they might be great for Blues too, and anything with big bending. I have super jumbo frets on one of my guitars, and had to adjust my fretting pressure for intonation. Just seems like a scalloped might make for a helluva Blues guitar— and you could string it really heavy gauge too!
Guess I should stop talkin’ and register…

Hi Gary
Just a small error in the post
“just giving Fener “. Isn’t it Fender ?
I guess that as usual it is a US Resident only giveway … Doesn’t matter, that not my kind of guitar, but as you said a free guitar is a free guitar.

The Malmsteen strat is a great guitar for blues, rock… Surprisingly, it is not made for metal: special fingerboard do not ease speed and vintage-output pickups might have difficulties to make your amp scream. Of course, with a monster amount of gain, it is also ok for metal, with the nice signature Malmsteen sound (‘like a flute’, but greasy on big strings) You can check the review of the Malmsteen strat on my blog (in French only) Cary: good to see how your blog is moving forward. I like it. Thanks!

I still listen to some of the hair bands, just not as much now. Sans Direction summed it up with “20 years ago”. I do still like rock, can’t quite get a hold on country, gives me a headache if I listen very long!
I would love to win the Yngwie Malmsteen Signature Strat, One can’t have too many guitars!! Guitars to me are like shoes are to my wife, I need every color and style.lol
I could handle a room full!

The same shit, the guitar goes only to USA residents. Man, I hate this thing, I am located in Romania and such limitations make me nuts, you can no imagine, there is no contest for people located around the world, USA, Canada and a few other locations…I understand the reasons but come on…

I play every style under the sun, but I didn’t pass this up. I’ve always wanted to try the scalloped neck, and Malmsteen was a childhood hero.
