No, you’re not reading that wrong… Gibson this morning has announced yet two more Slash Les Paul models –– the Custom Shop Slash Appetite for Destruction VOS, and Slash Appetite for Destruction Aged –– both in Butterscotch Nitro finishes, and both in strictly limited editions.
According to Gibson, the new Custom Shop Slash LPs have been built to re-create the raw musical mojo of classic Les Paul Standards circa 1958-’60, and are being offered in limited numbers –– 300 of the guitars are being finished in the Custom Shop’s proprietary VOS process, and another 100 will be hand-aged, and then signed by Slash.
Stand-out features include a set of Seymour Duncan Signature Series Alnico II Pro Slash zebra-coil humbuckers (designed to replicate the much sought after PAF tone of the ’50s,) a highly-figured two-piece maple top, precision-PLEK cut bone nut, single-piece Grade-A Mahogany neck with slim profile, Grade-A Rosewood fretboard (12″ radius) with 22 medium-jumbo frets, amber top-hat knobs, and Gibson’s traditional pearloid trapezoid position-marker inlays.
Electronics will include independent Tone & Volume controls (including high-end 500k audio taper pots with .022 Sprague capacitors wired to produce “smooth, musical roll-off of high frequencies,”) traditional three-way pickup switching via a Switchcraft toggle switch, and of course a Switchcraft 1?4” output jack.
Gibson’s Limited Edition Custom Shop Slash ‘Appetite for Destruction’ Les Paul will ship with a Certificate of Authenticity, Owner’s Manual, hardshell case with Slash’s signature silkscreened on it, and a deluxe vinyl LP edition of Guns N’ Roses classic Appetite for Destruction.
MSRP for the two instruments are $9,174 for the VOS model, and $12,468 for the Aged model, though street prices will be considerably less (the VOS edition is selling online for just under $6,500 at time of writing.)
