Well, August is Inside the Music month over at the Smithsonian Channel, and as part of the music-related festivities the good folks at Smithsonian will be offering up something for all of you guitar lovers.
Electrified: The Guitar Revolution is a documentary covering the history of what we all know to be music’s greatest invention –– the electric guitar –– and while it isn’t set to premier on television until August 15th, the entire episode is available online right now, free, and in its entirety.
From the early days of the Model U and Frying Pan to the guitar wars of Fender and Gibson, experience the evolution of the electric guitar through vintage footage, interviews with rock historians and rousing live performances.
I highly recommend you head on over there and check it out, and while you’re at it take a look at what else they are cooking up for Inside the Music month, including Smithsonian Channel’s Sound Revolution, and The Sweet Lady with the Nasty Voice –– all about Wanda Jackson, arguably the earliest woman in Rock & Roll.
