Electric Guitar Review (EGR) is concerned about privacy issues, and you should be too. With the advent of phishing, SPAM, and other devious types of online fraud, we believe that consumers and upstanding webmasters alike (including bloggers) need to stick together to better protect themselves.
You can rest assured that in order to protect your privacy when visiting EGR, we will always give you as much control as possible over the information you choose to give and receive.
The information we collect
Blogs are built around conversations, and as such we encourage you to leave a “comment” on EGR whenever you feel it adds to the conversation – or heck, even if you just have a question or want to say “hi!” In order to leave a comment you will need to use the comment form, which asks for your name, email address and website address. When you leave a comment your IP address is also recorded, but this is purely a spam prevention measure.
EGR also collects statistics about its visitors – geographical location, time and date of visit, number of repeat visits, and what webpages were viewed. However, this information is never cross-referenced with your IP address and is never associated with you as an individual, it is used solely to better understand our traffic.
As with most other websites, we collect and use the data contained in log files. The information in the log files include your IP (internet protocal) address, your ISP (internet service provider, such as AOL or Shaw Cable), the browser you used to visit our site (such as Internet Explorer or Firefox), the time you visited our site and which pages you visited throughout our site.
Cookies & Web Beacons
We also use third party advertisements on EGR to support our site. Some of these advertisers may use technology such as cookies and web beacons when they advertise on our site, which will also send these advertisers (such as Google through the Google AdSense program) information including your IP address, your ISP , the browser you used to visit our site, and in some cases, whether you have Flash installed. This is generally used for geotargeting purposes (showing New York real estate ads to someone in New York, for example) or showing certain ads based on specific sites visited (such as showing cooking ads to someone who frequents cooking sites).
You can chose to disable or selectively turn off our cookies or third-party cookies in your browser settings, or by managing preferences in programs such as Norton Internet Security. However, this can affect how you are able to interact with our site as well as other websites. This could include the inability to login to services or programs, such as logging into forums or accounts.
Why does EGR collect information on me?
Information about our traffic allows us to assess how EGR is doing in the bigger picture – which pages are popular, who our main readers are, how long they visit our site – and makes it possible for us to build the best blog we can.
Information left in the comments on our website is never used by EGR except for the purpose you originally intended (ie: if you ask to be notified of follow-up comments, we will, but we will never send you a newsletter, promotional material or sell your data to a third party).
We hate SPAM, pure and simple.
At times we may use traffic data as a whole to sell ads on our website or to otherwise generate revenue, though your personally identifiable information such as name, email, website address and IP address will never be used.
How will EGR use my personal information?
EGR will never sell, rent or lease your personal information to anyone else, even if they subject us to water torture, thumb screws, or burning at the stake. We will not share your personal details unless you have specifically granted permission, or unless we are required to do so by a court of law.
Who do I contact if I have a question or complaint?
Third-Party Ads and Cookies
We use third-party advertising companies to serve ads when you visit our website. These companies may use information (not including your name, address, email address, or telephone number) about your visits to this and other websites in order to provide advertisements about goods and services of interest to you. If you would like more information about this practice and to know your choices about not having this information used by these companies, click here.
